Privacy Policy

Last updated: 23 March 2026

On-Device Only
No Tracking

Overview

PeekLabel is designed with privacy at its core. Your children's data stays on your device. We do not create accounts, we do not collect personal information, and we do not sell data to anyone.

Data Stored on Your Device

The following data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to any server:

  • Child profiles (name, date of birth, allergies, intolerances)
  • Scan history (product names, nutrition data, scores)
  • App preferences (onboarding status, last selected profile)

This data is stored using Apple's on-device frameworks and is protected by your device's passcode and encryption. You can delete all scan history at any time from the Profile tab.

Product Lookups

When you scan a barcode, PeekLabel sends the barcode number to Open Food Facts (openfoodfacts.org), a free and open food product database. No personal information is included in this request — only the barcode number and the app name as a user-agent identifier.

When you photograph a label instead, all text recognition happens entirely on your device using Apple's Vision framework. The image is never uploaded.

Analytics

PeekLabel uses TelemetryDeck, a privacy-first analytics service, to understand how the app is used in aggregate. TelemetryDeck does not collect any personally identifiable information. All user identifiers are cryptographically hashed on your device before transmission, making them irreversible.

The anonymous signals we collect include:

  • App opens
  • Number of scans completed (barcode vs. label)
  • Whether a product was found in the database
  • Distribution of product score grades
  • Number of child profiles (bucketed, e.g. "1", "2", "3+")
  • Whether allergies are configured (yes/no)
  • Feature usage (history viewed, onboarding completed)

We never collect product names, barcodes, child names, ages, allergies, or any other personal data through analytics.

TelemetryDeck is based in the EU (Germany) and is fully GDPR compliant. No consent banner is required because no personal data is processed. For more information, visit telemetrydeck.com/privacy.

Tracking & Advertising

PeekLabel does not track you across apps or websites. We do not use Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework because we do not perform any tracking. There are no advertisements in the app and no data is shared with advertisers.

Third-Party Services

  • Open Food Facts — Public food product database. Only receives barcode numbers. Privacy policy
  • TelemetryDeck — Privacy-first analytics. Receives only anonymous, hashed signals. Privacy policy

Children's Privacy

PeekLabel is designed for parents to evaluate food for their children. While the app stores child profile information (name, date of birth, allergies), this data never leaves your device. We comply with GDPR-K requirements by not collecting any children's personal data on our servers.

Data Deletion

Since all personal data is stored locally on your device, you have full control:

  • Delete individual child profiles by swiping left in the Profile tab
  • Clear all scan history from Profile → Clear scan history
  • Uninstalling the app removes all data completely

Changes to This Policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, the updated version will be available within the app and on this page. We will never change our core commitment: your children's data stays on your device.
